Fruit Fancies
I do love a garden! My garden, your garden - I am fascinated to see what we can grow. It has been a strange spring in our garden with builders working on the house and losing much of the garden temporarily but also having more time to garden. Still working full time but with no commute and no teenager taxi service required there is a decent chunk of time in the week to get out in the garden.
In my first blog I am posting with the promise of good things to come...
We love jam - making our own jam every summer is super satisfying and tastes so good. We have raspberries, blackcurrants, redcurrants, loganberries, tayberries, blackberries and strawberries.
The vicious tayberries need to be tamed - they make the most delicious jewel red jam. We train the stems along wires to get plenty of flowers and to tie the new shoots out of the way for next year.
The apricot tree is trained against the west wall of our house where the heat off the bricks helps to ripen the apricots.
The greengage has been slow to start after we planted it 5 years ago but hopefully this year we will start to get some return.
I hope to post some more soon.
Wow! Round to yours for jam! The apricot tree is particularly impressive. Keep posting!
